POSITION OVERVIEW

 

TITLE: Equipment Operator

STATUS/FLSA:   Full-time /  Non-Exempt

PAY GRADE:

 

SUPERVISOR: Grounds Facilities Supervisor, Campus Enhancement Services

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

 

 

The purpose of this classification is to maintain and tend to the landscape of all District properties to provide a safe and pleasant atmosphere for students, teachers, staff, and visitors. Responsible for cutting grass, spraying pesticides, pruning shurbbery, cutting boards, repairing fences, constructing sidewalks, and moving and maintaining equipment and vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1)      Maintain and tend to the landscape of all District properties, including school grounds and athletics areas, including but not limited to cutting grass, pruning shurbbery, trimming trees, spreading mulch, fertilizing, and planting.

2)      Conduct regular pest and weed control of grounds.

3)      Assist in maintaining all District facilities; transport equipment and furniture.

4)      Manage and complete work orders.

5)      Maintain and repair related equipment and vehicles as needed.

6)      Paint lines on athletic fields prior to athletic games and attend athletic events to assist as needed.

7)      Assist other equipment operators and grounds personnel as needed.

8)      Be available for emergency or unplanned events that may transpire during the course of a school year.

9)      Participate in staff development programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE

 

Knowledge of maintenance equipment, installation, and general landscaping; Knowledge of school grounds, rules, regulations, and procedures; Ability to communicate and relate effectively to others orally and in writing; Ability to conduct precise measurements; Good interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of various athletics and related landscape and set-up needs; Ability to follow work orders and work with minimum supervision.

 

Use computers for data entry; or use hand-held power equipment or light and heavy machinery. Use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications; Use copiers or calculators; Interpret policy and establish methods and procedures for testing, operating, or repairing machinery; Use mowers, tractors, weed eaters, power tools, and other landscaping equipment; Manage inventory, property, or loss control.

EDUCATION

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

 

Completion of high school/GED. Experience may be substituted for education.

 

No experience required.

 

 

 

 

 

REQUIRED: Valid Driver’s license.

 

PREFERRED: Herbicide/Pesticide certification. Landscaping ceritifcations.

LIFTING: Up to 10lbs 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Up to 25lbs 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Up to 50lbs under 1/3 of the time; Up to 100lbs under 1/3 of the time; More than 100lbs none of the time.     

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point).

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).

Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
