POSITION OVERVIEW
TITLE: TEACHING ASSISTANT - EARLY CHILDHOOD / PRE-K (Floating Position)
STATUS/FLSA: Full-time / Non-Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: TEACHING ASSISTANT
SUPERVISOR: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 Days (see contract calendar). Salary is determined by the schedule set by the Board.
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Principal.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to assist Early Childhood Pre-K classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and providing a classroom environment in which students can benefit from the instructional program. Responsible for assisting with the supervision of Early Childhood Pre-K students, assisting with displays and bulletin boards, maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms, and operating and maintaining classroom technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Supervise students during lunch breaks, during recess, and on field trips, and monitor and assist students on restroom breaks, ensuring proper hygiene and hand washing.
- Prepare materials for lessons, class displays, and bulletin boards, and maintain classroom technology; ensure a clean and organized classroom; maintain clean sheets, blankets, and bibs.
- Assist children with artwork and clean up afterwards.
- Maintain the class calendar, record daily attendance and document student performance and progress; maintain folders for each student.
- Assist with student dismissal, examine student book bags upon arrival, and assist with packing book bags at the end of the day.
- Assist students requiring individual coaching, and non-English speaking students.
- Distribute food trays during lunch, and clean classroom tables after snacks.
- Reinforce work assignments and provide assistance in accomplishing tasks.
- Change clothes and diapers as required.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned.
- Present and reinforce appropriate early childhood curriculum.
- Responsible for assisting with classroom management.

- Escort students to various locations in the building.
- Communicate with parents as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of District policies and procedures; Good interpersonal skills; Knowledge of No Child Left Behind Legislation; Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Knowledge of early childhood guidelines; Ability to operate computers, SmartBoard, and general office equipment; Knowledge of Ages and Stages guidelines; Knowledge of Infants and Toddlers Environment Rating Scale standards.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE
Use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications.
EDUCATION: Completion of high school/GED. Associate’s Degree preferred.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: Must be Highly Qualified. CPR/First Aid Certification
PREFERRED: Annual training updates in Crisis Prevention Intervention. Training in applied verbal behavior strategies for children.
